252 – Don Mirra (Photographer/Adventurer)

By June 19, 2017June 4th, 20222 Comments

Don is one of the most well-traveled, thoughtful, talented men I’ve met in a long time. Join us for a few beers as we talk about his time in the Marines, what it’s like to sleep on a cot hanging thousands of feet above the ground, the plight of orphans around the world, and the challenges of photographing beautiful women.

Link to Don’s book, The Reluctant Muse. (Use the code “tangent” to get 25% off.)

Music: “Assouf,” by Tinariwen.

Just found this podcast, I know its a few years old. Don Mirra was a friend of mine back in the 90s in the Corps. He was from 2nd Force Reconnaissance Company on the East coast and I was from 1st Force Recon on the West coast. We were both assigned to the 1st Special Operations Training Group together and taught Force Recon Marines Hostage Rescue and urban climbing. Hes legit

This podcast channel is a treasure trove. What a slew of mind-boggling and interesting individuals!
Thanks for the tangential homage to Galen Rowell in this podcast. The world is a poorer place without him. His images and words were life-changing for thousands of shutterbugs and nature lovers.
All the best from Madrid / Spain.
