Patrick House explores the brain, how it works, what it is, and the tiny creatures that invade it and rearrange the furniture. This raises fundamental questions like: What are we? What does it mean to be alive? and How conscious are we of our consciousness?

First time listening to this podcast and thoroughly enjoyed this discussion. Will definitely recommend.

I don’t understand your questions on why things evolved to be as they are. I.e. what is the advantage of dogs developing a particular capacity?

Through evolution you may end up with a bunch of extraneous mutations. They don’t need to be of use as long as they don’t negatively affect your chance of survival or reproduction… the mutations are likely passed on.

Evolution is a story of what hasn’t failed.

So the question of why things developed is irrelevant. There is no why.
