I Love your podcast!! But I was dismayed to hear you read off a long list of writers that you admire and will feature on your new podcast, and not one of them was a woman. Lots of old white men….

    • Christopher Ryan says:

Fair point. Barbara Kingsolver, Annie Dillard, Flannery O’Conner (didn’t I mention her?). I’ll try to keep some balance, but let’s remember that until recently, almost all published writers were white men of one sort or another.

    esteemed Mr Ryan…
u constantly and consistently doubt scientific veracity….
yet when it comes to global warming u buy it all hook line and sinker ,,,,
    why do u think that b ?
    regards,jp.

    • Christopher Ryan says:

I doubt the veracity of a study or handful of studies — especially in areas where there is a strong cultural bias in favor of the results "found" by the researchers. So, when German scientists "discovered proof" that Jews were inferior in some way, for example, I’d be very doubtful. Similarly, when scientists funded by sugar companies "proved" that fat caused heart disease, there was reason to be doubtful.

The cultural bias (and money) in the question of climate change is AGAINST the findings that ALL the world’s most respected climate scientists have been announcing for decades. Literally trillions of dollars of interests DON’T WANT THIS TO BE TRUE. So the fact that so many scientists are going against that cultural current makes is more likely that they are right, not less.

    Chris,

What was that Amazon Prime show you mentioned?…I believe it was about a woman and her sexuality… I think, haha

  • Yay on the publisher’s willingness to reconsider the cover for C2D, which was IMHO was way too bland and uninteresting.

The cover deserves to be worthy of the explosiveness within the text.
