By December 22, 2019June 15th, 20224 Comments

Ramesh Srinivasan has been a faculty member at UCLA since 2005 in the Information Studies and Design Media Arts departments. He is a surrogate for Senator Bernie Sanders’ 2020 presidential campaign on issues of technology policy and the founder of the UC-wide Digital Cultures Lab, and studies technology’s impact on the lives of people across the world. He is an author as well. His most recent book, Beyond the Valley (MIT press), explores the the relationships between new technologies and our political, economic, and social lives. This includes such themes as tech’s relationship to democracy, social movements, and elections; automation, the gig economy, and worker futures; algorithmic bias and AI; and the relationship between tech and the nations and peoples of the global South.

    Hi Chris,

I urge you and your guest to google “Andrew Yang” running for the Democratic party nomination in 2020. Bernie Sanders had my vote up until I discovered Andrew Yang and I think you will like/support him too (maybe even have him on as a guest on TS!) should you receive his message in its entirety. If there is ever a chance that hunter and gatherer values, human-centered capitalism, hope for our next generation will ever come back, you MUST google “Andrew Yang”! I was your biggest donor on Patreon before and I had stopped contributing so I can financially support Andrew Yang. Please google this man and help spread the word!

With all my heart and sincerity,
    Albert Chien

    • Hey Albert. I’m familiar with Andrew Yang. I like him and his ideas a lot. In fact, I’ve sent him some money too! I think Bernie has put in the time though. He’s been making the same arguments for decades. And he’s been right all along. But if Andrew ended up with the nomination, I’d be on board for sure.

        Hey Chris,
That is great to hear! And, your reply has also shifted my perspective on things (once again!). All this time, I thought of Bernie as corrupted and part of the establishment, since he’s been in DC for so long! But, then again I supported Ron Paul back in 2008, who’s probably been in DC even longer. Anyway, good to hear from you in Thailand and keep up the great work!

You rock, Christopher!. I listened to your two most recent books on a Denver-Phoenix-San Francisco trip and it helped me deal with all the artificial paradises we humans have erected along the way (And especially at the trip’s endpoint). Thank you for your great work and for getting it out there.
