406 – Tom Sewell and Tao Ruspoli (80 Years of Finding Beauty in Unexpected Places)

By January 20, 2020June 16th, 20229 Comments

Tom Sewell is a multi-media artist, designer, photographer, filmmaker, sculptor, environmental visionary; self-proclaimed “Master of mischief, maker of dreams”.  Tao Ruspoli is a filmmaker, musician, bohemian visionary, and soul-connector. This is one of my all-time favorite conversations. (Special thanks to Tao for introducing me to Tom and somehow getting me invited to join this very special time in Tom’s life.)

Holy Christ…….32 minutes in and I find out this guy did armed robberies when he was young, that he enjoyed doing at the time!??!
I don’t care what he did in his later years, and especially since he’s wealthy…connect the dots. Imagine the PTSD trauma he dished out.

Evil and beauty from the same person. Much like how Cosby was a master comedian and serial rapist all in the same person.
Unfortunately nothing surprises me anymore with these famous people.

Yes he seems like an aristocratic dabbler. Chris asked some complex questions about art and it was if he had never thought about it. That’s what happens when you’re a real estate developer first and social art denizen second

  • Gedski says:

    Yeah. I’m thinking sociopath…..
Seems to have no regrets about doing whatever the feck he wanted, “just having fun”, regardless of how it affected others
    Boo!

  • Gedski says:

Whoops. Maybe bit quick to judge there …

  • Fantastic conversation, despite some minor audio hiccups. There’s nothing more enviable than a life well lived. And THAT also includes being aware of all the mistakes you made along the way. It’s obvious Tom is aware he’s very lucky he didn’t spend a big chunk of his life in prison due to all those stupid arm robbery shenanigans. Maybe he was a bit like Razkolnikov in Dostoyevsky’s Crime and Punishment back in those days, thinking he was above stagnant societal rules; many people behaved that way back in those days of the counterculture.

But the part that floored me was the story about his son Sasha. Holy shit! That was the very definition of serendipitous.

Chris’s intellect occasionally leaves guests in dust.. this time was one. Tao was adulating from sidelines, but frankly this guy Seems to lack curiosity. Ironic for self identified artist

  • I’ve been trying to read a lot about him lately. Does anyone have good resources about his life?

  • Thank you so much for sharing this, and everything else you put out into the world Chris… I’m inspired to create, go out on a limb and go, do , be after this episode…!
Perfect collaboration with Tao, who I met listening to your podcast *something I’m also grateful for! I’m completely enamored by him…
The whole conversation was wonderful, but it got better and better and better… I specially loved the minutes following your first attempt to end the podcast… Sending all my love and gratitude!
