Cat Person” offers a subtle, nuanced look at power, eroticism, and the confusion that often results when a man and a woman try (and fail) to understand each other, taking us inside the heads of people who are together — and yet miles apart.

Oh my God I have been that girl a million times! Right away I clued in that he would turn out to be an insecure nuisance. I’m not sure if encounters like that made me feel powerful, I’ll have to think about that. I think in my case it would turn into a bizarre sense of obligation somewhere early on. Kinda fucked up.

Hey I like it when you read stories. Thanks for this, the stupid internet has completely usurped the time I used to devote to reading books. I do miss it.

I often feel a sense of guilt around guys like him. It’s easier for women to be choosy since men are not so. It’s easy to recognize an inexperienced and maybe not so nice guy like him and brush him off. I like that in this story the guy wasn’t redeemed as a wonderful but misunderstood misfit. In a Hollywood movie that is what would happen. He doesn’t meet women easily because he really isn’t offering anything. He’s insecure/jealous and probably learned about sex from pornography. No thanks. He would not make a good boyfriend.
