436 – Beth Ryan (My Sister / President: Stepping Forward LA)

By September 12, 20202 Comments

Beth Ryan, my younger sister, has lived in a multitude of places and now resides in Los Angeles. She attended college in Boston and worked for two start-up computer companies. Wanting to get a better work-life balance, she took a year off and traveled around the world. This trip allowed her to find her passion and her voice. She now runs a non-profit called Stepping Forward LA ( supporting foster youth who age out of the foster care system. She was my first “listener” and probably has more embarrassing stories of me than anyone else.

Hi Chris, I think this episode of your conversation with your sister is great, much more interesting than the description, rather plain and general to me, that you have written. The episode description might not be very attractive to new listeners who don’t previously know anything about your family background or your sister’s work. Thanks very much for the episode anyways.

I just listened to the part about your work in Sex at Dawn that suggested the genetic parent can still fully love and take care of their child. And frankly … I agree. I have an older brother who was adopted by my mother back in 1972. And she always made sure that she let him know that he was adopted but that she loves h with all her maternal might. And that impacted him so much so that, when he was a teenager, she kept track of his genetic mother and told him that he has a right to meet her. And he said back ” your my mother.” And that meant so much to her as much as him. Your sister is an angel for what she does. Always love your podcast.
