By January 17, 2021June 22nd, 20228 Comments

Welcome to another Ramblin’ ROMA. Lots to cover in this one. I talk about:

Current events (of course);

How/why to compliment the women/men in your life;

Why we need to think globally, but act locally;

The life and death of my friend Diego Fresco;

Why there’s no shame in changing course in life;

Some suggestions for taking advantage of COVID;

Ideas for how to communicate with people enthralled with conspiracy theories;

A new consulting service I’m offering, here;

Some ideas for seminars I’m considering offering online.

Here’s the video of the dude building the cabin, and here’s the summary of Werner Herzog’s films. Dan Carlin’s Common Sense podcast is here.

Find me on Instagram or Twitter.

  • I agree with your opinion that we need to build bridges with people who might be attracted to extremist views, although I’m not sure if your approach would work the way you intend it to.

    IMO, the people who fell for the Pizzagate conspiracy didn’t do so because they started with a natural protective instinct toward children, and then they began hating the Democrats and Hillary as a result of Pizzagate. I think it’s actually the other way around: They started with a deep hate towards the Democrats and Hillary, and BECAUSE of it they were actually willing to believe the Pizzagate nonsense.

    I mean, if these people were actually concerned about the welfare of abused children, then how come they haven’t stormed any of the ICE detention facilities in which children ARE being abused and tortured physically and psychologically?

    They are only against the abuse done by “the other side.”

    And this is what happens with a lot of stuff. People might be against climate change because they don’t want anyone telling them how they need to change their lifestyle –like stop driving their gas-guzzling pickup truck– and as a result of that they are willing to listen to so-called ‘experts’ telling them what they want to hear: that is all a lie concocted by them Liberals to take away their freedoms.

  • Chris: Your remembrance of Diego brought back a flood of moments with those who, like Diego, I recall standing searching the horizon for that ship. Don’t think I am immune from waking up on occasional (every other) days scanning for sails, but the feeling passes as I join my love for breakfast and begin another day of a pretty damn good life.

    At 72, I long ago realized that I am a reader and listener not a story teller. If Homer were still around, I know I would be glad to carry his harp forever. So, I am always delighted to find a good storyteller like yourself, and will continue to listen as long as you keep talking!
