480 – Joe Smarra and Jesse Trevino (Police Reform Advocates)

Buddies since their tours in Iraq in the Marines, Joe and Jesse founded Solution Point + in order to use their experience as police officers to bring better training models to police departments around the country. Their approach relies on collaborative partnerships within local communities and prioritizing behavioral and cultural change within law enforcement agencies to better handle calls involving mental health crises.

  • Really interesting discussion, and I wish these gentlemen the best.

    One caveat I have, though, is that there were a lot of mentions about ‘mental health’, but zero mentions about ‘gun control’. The fact that there are so many weapons in the United States and this is the rationale behind why American cops are instinctively inclined to resort to lethal force is something that needs to be addressed. It’s not like the United States have a monopoly on mental health cases in the world.
